If that doesn’t work, you should update the iPod with the latest iPod software using iTunes 7 or later.
If you need to order service for your iPod, you’ll have to know its purchase date and the serial number. If the service for your iPod is not covered under the AppleCare protection Plan or the one year limited warranty Apple will charge you a fee.

If Apple personalized your iPod, you should use their repair service online because that is the only way to have a replacement iPod sent with the same personalization.
